After my electricity went out a few days ago (it's still out thanks to Sandy), I learned that George Lucas sold LucasFilms to Disney for $4.5 million (oh, it's worth a LOT more than that)! I'm both excited and worried because on one hand, we might get new Star Wars. On the other, we might get new Star Wars.
Now, don't get me wrong. I would LOVE to see a movie based on the Tales of the Old Republic games, but I'm also worried of what Disney is gonna do with it. Are they gonna dumb it down for the tweens or something? I mean, the Star Wars/Muppets crossover worked back in the '70s 'cause most of the aliens were from the Jim Henson company and they were hilarious, but can you imagine a Star Wars/Phineas & Ferb crossover? UUUUUGH!!!! The last thing I wanna see are the kids giving lyrics to the Cantina band.
I'm still flabbergasted over their upcoming Avengers crossover! Then again, Disney bought Marvel and, well, $3.8 billion later . . .
As much as it would excite me to see Episode VII, I feel as though there are other LucasFilm doors that deserve to be opened. Think about it: "Monkey Island" for the young'ns, "Sam & Max" for . . . a demographic that escapes me right now, "The Dig" looks interesting for an older crowd and, good lord, imagine a brand-new retelling of "Captain EO" minus the singing! I already have (type in "Captain EO's New Suit" and see for yourself).
All I'm saying is, as glad as I am over the fact that Disney is slowly but surely conquering the earth, I would love to see LucasFilms do more than just "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones".
"Red Tails" doesn't count.
